Arrive to Culmination

lone cumulus

I am tired
More tired
Than all the people in the world
I am nervous
More nervous
Than all the people in the world
I am alone
           But
I am hopeful!
more hopeful
than all the people in the world!
I hope to be dauntless!
More dauntless than all the people in the world!
I hope to be free!
Free like the clouds in sky!

I hope to die
           But
It is impossible.
I hope not to be alone.
It is impossible.
           Impossible…
What should I do?
I am an Afghan woman
I tolerate impossible because I am a woman
I am alone, no hope
Because I am a woman
At last, what is my sin?

  1. Dear Zohra: Congratulations on your first poem being published on the blog! And wow, what a poem it is! So many quotable lines. Here are the ones I know will stay with me: “I tolerate impossible because I am a woman.” And of course: “I hope to be dauntless!/More dauntless than all the people in the world!”

I especially appreciate your honesty here, the different emotions you reveal.

You end on a crucial question. Who on our earth can answer this one? Definitely no one who is unstained by his or her own sin.

Well done, Zohra. Look forward to reading more of your work!

    Stacy
