October 11, 2013 is the second annual International Day of the Girl. The Afghan Women’s Writing Project is supporting this UN-sponsored celebration with poems and stories written for this day by our writers.
The focus of the celebration this year is “Innovating for Girls’ Education.” In Afghanistan, while the past decade has brought significant progress in improving girls’ access to education, many girls still do not go to school at all or drop out during primary school for cultural, security related or financial reasons.
