Another day in another year
As violence against women endures
Men still hurt women
Raping them
Beating pregnant women to death
Killing female journalists
Cutting their body parts
And more
How shall I celebrate my day?
Should I observe it with awards
For successful women?
Or sit with the victims of violence?
Should I call for justice?
What should I do?
I can write
Describe my sadness
Advocate for women
Living in my country
Hope that my words and stories are heard
That one day soon violence will decrease
This is my message

I feel the same: progress in some places, terrible things in others. It is a dilemma. So I do what I can, both celebrate and fight. And also vote! Voting isn’t everything, but it certainly counts.
Brava, Seeta. Just very moved by your poem. It is very easy to feel powerless in the face of violence and insistent oppression. But you show everyday–with your mind, your heart, your typing fingers–that you are very powerful, and those who try to control and hurt you had better beware! I am proud to read and share your writings. Stacy
