My School in Jawzjan (part 2)

School starts at 7 a.m. and goes until noon. We would like to serve lunch to the students some day and when we are able to do so, we will keep school open in the afternoon, too. At an additional cost of $15 per student, lunch would exceed our budget.

My School in Jawzjan

Five years ago I never dreamed that I would open a private school. But now I own a school where we have 120 students and there will be more in the coming year, enshallah.

My University Days

I just smile and think / What is life? / Wind blowing / Leaves dance in the trees / Students are passing me / laughing, talking, smiling / Busy friends, happy to be in class

My Morning

dawn-over-kabul

The next morning I had to wake up at 5 a.m. because my brother goes to school at 5:30 and I have to prepare his breakfast. When I woke, I felt very lazy. So I prayed to God: Please make this morning a weekend! But it was a funny prayer because I knew it would never be answered.

Memories of My Grandparents

Grandmother gave us nuts and Grandfather gave us rupees. Grandmother always kept nuts in pockets for the children. Because she preferred me, she gave more nuts than she gave the others. I saw how they managed all the children which wasn’t easy because there were twenty children who would come to see them. I liked that she valued me more than she valued the others.

America Imagined

When I hear the word “America,” I imagine lots of clean places and people busy with their work mornings and evenings, no time to waste.

Schoolchildren wait in bus stations for their school buses. Some are late and they run for the bus. The air is clean and the children’s clothes aren’t soiled with mud. They all have twinkling eyes, big smiles and dimples.

Warm Beds in Cold Weather

Every morning I wake early / wishing and thinking / I will do this, do that and that. / Everyone sleeps.
