I am a little girl inside the blue burqa
I want to fly like a bird
Give me my pencil to draw the beauty of the world
The yellow color of the sun,
which is dark in front of my eyes
The blue color of the sky,
which is hidden from me in my burqa
The green color of the ground,
which is hidden in the war of my country
The red color of the rose,
which is hidden in my dark heart.
Give me my pen to write my dream
A dream of freedom
A dream of carrying my school bag
A dream of becoming a leader
You cover my talent
You cover my personality
Who am I?
A little girl inside the burqa
You hide my name
Cover my identity
You say I am “a good little girl” when
covered inside the burqa
Why?

Wonderful work!!! The last line “why?” made me gasp. Why indeed? Thank you for both your beautiful poem and creative drawing. Nancy
Give me my pen to write my dream!
There is so much beauty in this poem, it is sad and breaks my heart, but again I stand up because I see so much light in your pen. So much light in your dreams!
With love
