Make a new we
We’ll open the door for everyone
Clean the depressed atmosphere
Though shades of pessimism
Surround us
Stealing our hope
And people are breathless
Like dead trees
They do not salute us
We can see the moon among clouds
We can bring it out
If we stretch out the hand of peace
If we open the mouth of love
We can split the sky
Making their dead hearts live again
Melting their hostility as ice
Let us grab the angel’s happiness
Make a new decision
For a new life
Open all the eyes
See another face of life
Let you and me
Let us make a new world

Stunning work, Sitara, on every level. Wonderful.
This is simply beautiful, Sitara. I especially love the “clean the depressed atmosphere” line. Wonderful work!
“If we open the mouth of love / We can split the sky” – that’s a fine vision, part of this very affirmative poem!
Absolutely beautiful, a joy to read, may this dream some true for you my dear dear sister,,,frm Dr Iman
I am reading your wonderful poem here in New Zealand and I am in tears at your wisdom and eloquence. You are the voice of hope itself, speaking from a place where hope is so hard to find, especially for women. Your words speak what all humanity needs to hear, and to dream and to believe. Thank you so very much, and may many blessings come to you and to the world from your beautiful words.
Beautiful, Sitara! I love the rhythm of this poem and the hope and optimism. Yes; let us make a new world!
This poem shows how Afghani women our stripped of their happiness and basic rights to life. The life of an Afghani women described Sitara, shows how the society of Afghanistan has been forged into a complete patriarchal society. Sitara tells us that the men of Afghanistan have taken away all hope and happiness from women. Like the author, I do believe that that with love women living in this controlling and depressing atmosphere will be able to break free from the hostility they live through every day. The suppression of women can only last for so long. The day will come for the women of Afghanistan to rise from the darkness that surrounds them and have an impact on the world.
This is an amazing poem. It makes me think of how different or realities are. It also helps me to appreciate the place that I live in because not everyone has been lucky enough to receive a life like this. They have to work hard day in and day out and I appreciate that of them. My favorite line from this problem is “Let us make a new world.” The world is on the wrong path right now and it us up to us to fix it because no one is going to fix it for us.
a.Comment for poem Let You and Me: This is a wonderful poem. It starts with a depressive mood, then turns the emotion with a good change of the situation, and finally ends with some wishes. The poem uses lots of metaphors such as clouds and dead trees to represent hopeless people. From the poem, I learned that people in Afghanistan are always putting effort in building the country a better place for everybody to live. Because of the improvements, Afghanistan’s situation is not as bad as before. The most important part is, the writer points out that a good world should be created by “you and me” which means everyone lives in the country should stay together as a team.
This poem gives an amazing meaning and mission for many, including the generations to come. Many are suffering from the attacks and violences of others, forcing people to do things against their will. We can completely change our world if we choose to love others around us. Love our enemies. Forgive those who have done wrong to you. I know it is hard, but we need to understand we have all done wrong. The way we choose to love others and treat others will change the world. That is a lot to say, but it is completely true. No matter what religion, ethnicity, or skin tone you are, we all need to love each other because we truly need each other. “14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15). This is a verse I follow day by day. It reminds me that we all have our faults, but just like our God is gracious, we need to be as well. Many have done unspeakable actions towards me. However, I choose to forgive them and let it go. This truly changed my world because if I had chose to live with these thoughts in my head, I would be living in complete darkness. Since I decided to move on, I live with joy and peace daily. Living in a world of love is a dream of mine and of so many. I continually pray that this will come true.
This poem shows how oppressed Afghani women are and how the Afghan society is a dominated by males. The patriarchal society is described in the poem and shows how they treat women as second-class citizens to men. This is shown when Sitara says “They do not salute us.” This shows that because the patriarchal society heavily supports men and how the society does not treat women as the same. The society treats them as inferiors to men rather than equals. However, she also believes that they should be equal and that men should not be punished for their ignorance. This is shown when she says “Making their dead hearts live again. Melting their hostility as ice.” Sitara wants to make their hearts live again meaning that she forgives them for their mistakes and she wants to “melt” their hostility.
Sitara is speaking out for all women in the Afghani society. She discusses her want for change in Afghanistan as a women and how she witnesses examples of in equality between men and women in her everyday life. Women must all come together and show their importance in society for them to reach an equal stature to that of men. It is unfortunate that women have to even go through this struggle of inequality during modern society, however it is the harsh reality of the situation. Sitara hopes to create a new era, in which women will come together and not remain fearful and under the rule of men. As a result the hostility towards women will vanish and the depressing atmosphere will be overcome with prosperity.
This is a great poem. It describes how the Taliban took away all the beautiful things. Afghan women were depressed by the society, lived in a controlling and despair atmosphere. But I believed one day these will be gone. Women were fighting for themselves, seeking for a better future. This poem also makes me appreciate the peaceful environment I live in now. It makes me realized that peace is not a normality, there are a lot of countries still in a war. I hope the war will end and the Afghanistan can have a new start, a bright future.
The poem shows that women are not being equally treated as men. It starts with a depressed tone, and ends with content and hope. It indicates the inequality of gender in Afghan society. As the poem says “Like dead trees, they do not salute us.” It shows that men have been improperly treating Afghan women, and have no respect of them. As I live in a society with more respect on women, I am astonished of the mistreatment of them. Women there are not only subjected to domestic tasks, but also to properties to men.
Dear Sitara,
Let us split the sky with love! Your work is amazing, vital, important. I will think of you as I see the moon, and pray. Keep writing, keep encouraging others as you may. I will hold you in my heart.
Dear Sitara,
Your writing is genuine and deep. I have always written poems to release heavy emotions that have no other outlet. I live in California and am still writing to release emotions. I hope you continue and reflect on your poetry and see the process as the journey for healing and direction.
You write beautifully, I love your metaphors and command of the language. Keep writing, you have a gift.
Bless you!
Very excellently crafted poem. Wish you joy the rest of our life. One day Afghanistan will reclaim its destiny thanks to people like you.
Let nothing stand in the way of true love. Well done.

lovely poem! I hope you keep writing in the future. Looking forward to more!
I loved this piece. The optimism expressed, the willingness to be the change in the world is wonderful to hear
Truly excellent poem, Sitara. Your courage and words alone exhibit the divine power of positivity and love, even in the face of terrible oppression. Keep splitting the sky, one poem at a time. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Dear Sitara,
Thank you for your beautiful poem. It is truly inspirational to the rest of us. Your poem is so illustrative in the way that it calls for a better place. The message that I derived from your poem was that if everyone can come and work together, we have a shot at making this a beautiful and peaceful world again and I feel like that is a very powerful message. Given all the turmoil and chaos and violence that is going on in the world at the moment, I think that this poem really speaks volume as to how the situation can be solved. Rather than combatting violence with violence, just communicating our feelings and thoughts is what truly matters. This is an amazing poem in its elegant nature to express the value of communication and partnership.
Yours Truly,
Anik Sen
Dear Sitara,
Thank you for taking the time to write this poem. You are a voice of courage to those surrounding. You taking the time to write this shows that women can be heard no matter where they come from. I’m glad that you are putting your passion into a place where people can see and appreciate it. From my interpretation of your poem, I would like to think that you are hoping to end all the destruction and disparity in the world. Furthermore, you hope that mankind can replace it with love for all. I hope you enjoyed my interpretation of your creation.
Sincerely,
-Kamala Katta
Dear Sitara, it is a joy to read your poem, as it is so beautiful, touching and affectionate. It’s full of love, kindness and hope, especially speaking from a place where it’s so hard to find hope. It is really encouraging to visualize the bright future you illustrate. I most like the last stanza, where you call for a peaceful world. Instead of violence and indifference, people can work together to create a new world full of love and hope. Thank you so much for writing this poem, and may the blessings of love, peace and joy fill your life and the world.
Dear Sitara,
Your writing show a galore of hope and ambition for your country to be filled with love and peace. Even though, as of right now, people do not seem to agree with each other and always turn towards war, your idea of a peace can be reached. Your beautifully written poem shows passion and a solution that many people should look at because it can solve many problems. People can come together to work as one to create a world worth loving. Your words are absolutely inspiring and I hope you continue writing in the future. It is important to get your words out there and I believe that yours are moving.
Dear Sitara,
This poem is so powerful with your incredible word choice and your idea of everything changing! Your poem describes a new beginning, if you could start with a clean slate. Showing everyone who brought terror in our eyes, the power that we’ve held. No matter if they’re your enemy or your ally you will still give them a chance to have a new beginning. Many may be shocked at the change but will quickly make them forget of the reached life they once lived. There still could be negative comments surrounding us and people against our needs but we will still lend a hand out and open our hearts up for them which will allow them to entrust us. We are able to do anything and everything if we put our minds to it. We must create a new life for ourselves and our future, making better decisions, giving us a new world in which we want to live in. From what I interpreted from the story, is a poem of hope and passion for a new world because this world we live in is flawed. This poem also shows the unjust equality between men and women in Afghanistan. Women are still seen as lesser but that does not mean that she cannot have a dream. A want and need for something greater than given.

Dear Sitara,
This is a poem that describes a serious social situation for women in Afghan. Women are not happy with their lives because they don’t even have basic rights to live with. In the poem, you said women do everything for the family but no one shows the respect to them. It’s a very sad truth. But also, you said that if we open the mouth of love, we can split the sky. It’s very true. I hope everyone in the world can fight for women’s rights. Then there will be a day that women of Afghanistan can get their respect and freedom back and live a happy life.
The ending of the poem is really impressive. I like how it is a dream and how the poem mentions “we”. The fact that we can change the world encourages the dream on. The change of emotion was very interesting in the poem as it started out sad and turned to a really inspiring mood. It is a really good dream and many people hope this to happen. It gives a good meaning to the world and how it still has hope but it depends on the people themselves. The people change the world due to their actions, and if everyone pursues the same objective, the dream will come true.
