Now when I walk in the street
My feet have no energy
I can’t raise my head as an Afghan woman
I am afraid
Like a weak person
A toy in men’s hands
Must I pass my life in darkness?
I am afraid now
How much violence can I tolerate?
What kind of sin is worth such brutality?
I am discouraged about our future
I am afraid

I am so sorry to hear this news, and I am glad to hear that so many people are standing up for her and demanding justice. I have found that when I stay with this kind of people, people who fight for justice, I am less afraid and less discouraged. Know that many, many people are with you.
Your beautifully written poem gives voice to the fear that must be everywhere in Afghanistan after the horrific, brutal murder of Farkhunda. You have asked hard questions and I understand your discouragement. However, as Sarah says, there is power in finding others who feel the way you do and working together as a group to bring change. I hope you will find comfort with your family and with other strong women like you who share your feelings. Nancy
